We are an independent association aiming to boost civic pride. Our focus is on protecting and enhancing the environment of Abergavenny and its adjoining communities – the character of the built heritage, the public realm, the greenery and the river corridors. We support modest sustainable and sensitive change of the town, engaging with the planning authority and other bodies, and we support and work with other organisations with consistent objectives. Our members enjoy a programme of monthly talks on environmental and other matters.

The Society has objected to proposals for a new house in the garden of 4 Avenue Road. We do not consider that the application meets the requirements of Conservation Area policy in this particularly sensitive location, but we have made some suggestions that might point the way to designing an acceptable, even commendable, alternative. We are launching our refreshed website
Thanks to Abergavenny’s The Media Agency, we are launching our refreshed website. It provides you with much the same information as its predecessor, but more clearly and attractively, and we aim to update and improve it from now on.
Proposal for 500 homes on the lower slopes of the Little Skirrid
In December 2024 we decided to oppose an otherwise welcome development plan proposal for 500 homes on the lower slopes of the Little Skirrid unless a free-flowing crossing of the A465 and the railway is provided for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooters to reach the town.
We now know that the Inspectors’ Examination of the plan will be considering this matter in July and we will soon be deciding whether and how to present our updated views based on information we have received since 2024.
